Meet Carolyn
Carolyn Miller Parr has been settling cases and resolving conflicts since 1977 as a Judge, litigator, and Special Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General (Tax) at the Department of Justice. She founded Beyond Dispute Associates in 2002, when she retired from the United States Tax Court after 16 years of service.
She has also been a Secret Service wife, mom, pastor, family caregiver, mediator, widow, and a bride again (of Jim Le Gette). In that order!
Her first book, “In The Secret Service; The True Story of the Man Who Saved President Reagan’s Life” with late husband Jerry Parr (1930-2015), retells the story of the March 30, 1981 assassination attempt on Ronald Reagan, as seen by the Agent whose quick action changed history.
“Love’s Way: Living Peacefully With Your Family as Your Parents Age,” with Sig Cohen, grew out of their joint mediation practice, Beyond Dispute Associates. True stories from real families (names changed) and their own lived experiences as family caregivers, illustrate how seniors and their adult children can peacefully navigate the rapids of role changing, sibling rivalry, documents and planning, grief, forgiveness, care giving, letting go, and more. Carolyn and Sig share some of these stories through their blog, Tough Conversations.
Carolyn believes — and her life demonstrates — that the last third of life can be a time of deepening family love, personal joy, growth, and spiritual strength.
